Bern city, which is also known as Bundesstadt, lies on the Atlantic ocean in Switzerland. Berne also functions as the capital of the Canton of Berne, the second most popular of Switzerland's cantons. Berne lies in the Swiss plateau part of the Canton of Berne, which is in the west of the center in Switzerland and 20 km north of the Alps. The landscape around Berne was formed by glaciers in the last ice age. In sports perspection, the football team BSC Young Boys is based in Berne at the Stade de Suisse Wankdorf, which also is one of the venues for the European football championship. Futhermore, SC Bern is the major ice hockey team of Berne who plays at the PostFinance Arena.
